The Day America Died                                              by Aaron D. Hancock

I’m sorry for the delay in posting new information and news on the site but I’ve taken a week off to mourn the death of our nation and something we called Habeus Corpus.  Habeus Corpus is a little idea that predates the Constitution and our Bill of Rights yet Mr. Bush decided (being as he is the decider) to do away with this basis of freedom so that he can arrest anyone he wishes at any time he wishes.  A “detainee” then loses all rights when they are stripped of their citizenship and are simply declared enemy combatants in the never-ending war on terror.  They can be detained, tortured… I mean pressured, their children can be tor… there I go again, I mean pressured in order to get parents to confess or give up “vital” information, yelling at or attempting to influence government or government officials is now illegal, oh, and did I mention this does away with all but the third amendment of the Bill of Rights?  Because that is exactly what this law does.

But yes, amendment three… we won’t have to worry about soldiers staying in our homes… is still in tact.  The rest, nope, that’s right, they’re gone now.  Speedy trial, by jury, right to post bail, freedom of speech, petition of redress of grievances, right to bear arms, protection from illegal searches and seizures of property, due process, necessity of indictment, right to council chosen by the accused, trial by jury, rights retained by the people and powers not given to the federal government reserved to the people or the states… all now a thing of the past my friends.  When they name you an enemy combatant and take away your citizenship unconstitutionally, you have no rights… other than you won’t have a soldier shacking up in the cell with you or at your home, provided it isn’t confiscated by the federal government or condemned by local politicians for higher tax revenue producing land uses.  If you consider that land rights activists are now lumped in with terrorists then article three is pretty much a moot point as well, so they’re all gone now.  All 10.  Did you know we had ten?  Well we don’t now because you, and everyone else, didn’t get upset about this weeks ago and start screaming at your Senators and Representatives to vote against this tyrannical law.  I’m not just blaming you, I didn’t do enough either (obviously… it passed), none of us did.  We all let it go, either because we didn’t know, or because we thought talking it down was enough or because disagreeing loudly with this legislation would somehow prevent it from passing… but it didn’t.  No one listened, no one cared.

What we have now, instead, is open dictatorship.  We can, of course, get rid of these illegal laws, because any law that is in contrast with the Constitution, is not a valid law.  Any law which goes against the founding principals of this republic is illegal.  Therefore, we are obligated to ignore and to disobey these laws as the tyrannical garbage they are.  I have half a mind to print up the entire 80+ page bill and use it for toilet paper.  This is not freedom, this is not democracy, and if it is, then may God help us return to a republic again where sanity and reality reign rather than this mess we have now where corporations pull the strings of our puppet leaders and tell them every single thing to do.  William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania once said, “Those people who are not governed by God will be ruled by tyrants.”  A humble politician from rural Illinois said, “The people are the masters of both Congress and courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert it!”  Now tell me who’s been perverting the Constitution lately hmm?

We have a duty.  We have a responsibility as citizens of this fine land.  We must respond and react to these infringements on our rights and freedoms.  We must fend off these attacks on our Constitution and our Bill of Rights at any cost.  This is what is demanded of us as free citizens of the republic.  We were born into this great land where freedom was guaranteed, but the past few generations have allowed these freedoms to slip away, and ours is doing no better!  We are just as guilty if we do not stand against tyranny.  They can take my life but they cannot take my free will, spirit and soul!  Substituting freedoms and rights for money and stuff is not an acceptable or reasonable trade.  My rights and freedoms are not for sale for any price!
