The Acceptance of Truth by: Aaron D. Hancock
Truth is not
always an easy thing to swallow. Just
yesterday I was watching Jerry Springer and he had a perfect example of this on
his show. Three hyper-country hillbillies were sleeping with the same
backcountry whore… the old guy that was cheating with the woman figured he was
the only one she was cheating with… Ho,
ho! Imagine his shock and disbelief
that his unfaithful new hussy was hooking up with his son as well!
The original poor bastard boyfriend was too busy playing video games and
sleeping to notice his woman was cheating on him while she was out hunting with
the old guy. In fact, I’m pretty
sure he didn’t even know she was hunting… he just “Wondered why she was
gone to the store for so long.” The fact is, none of them wanted to face the truth… that
this redneck cockmagnet wasn’t worth fighting over, that she wasn’t faithful
to any of them… and that she probably wouldn’t ever be. The Truth is often at odds with what we’d like.
The Truth, is no respecter of persons and so many whom The Truth does not
benefit, wish to hide The Truth from the public or others or even to hide from
it themselves. The Truth may offend
us, it may disgust us, or it may revolt us, which makes it all that more hard to
swallow. I’ve noted several
things regarding The Truth that I’d like to share.
Firstly I’ve noted that the more entrenched someone is in their belief system… regarding society, culture, religion, politics, etc. the harder it is for them to accept The Truth. This seems like an obvious thing to point out, but I bring this up for several reasons, which will be clearer in a moment. Also The Truth is hard to accept for those that have more to lose… jobs, financially, etc. than for those who have less. Imagine the mental rejection someone might go through towards the information that the company they work for supports slave labor or helped fund ethnic warfare in Africa. If they have a 401K, a pension, benefits, insurance, etc. how much harder is it for them to say, “Screw you insane fools, I quit. You people are sick!” See what I’m getting at here? I believe you can predict someone’s reaction to The Truth based on what they have to lose, or on how their conscience will accept this information. A poor homeless man expects the corporations and government to be up to no good. He is not forced to play mental gymnastics to avoid scarring his conscience as he goes through life, so he sees the world much more clearly and as the world really is. Certainly he sees things in “simpler terms” because he hasn’t forced himself to rationalize so many wicked things in order to accept the world as it is. The world has clearly not accepted this individual, and he, in turn, has less trouble not accepting its compromises of conscience.
Secondly, I’ve noted that the more controlled someone’s source or sources of information, the more deeply entrenched they seem to be in their opinions. The more propaganda the mainstream media spews at us, the more the population at large believes it. Repetition is a powerful tool. Repetition is a powerful tool. A lie repeated a hundred times over is no less a lie than the first moment it was imagined in the first liar’s mind. It was, is, and always will NOT be The Truth. I also ask you to note where most media outlets (I use that term very purposefully) get THEIR news? The outlets get them from the two sources generally… AP and Reuters. Whoever owns these two news sources basically controls the news, plain and simple. Oh Murdoch or NBC or Wolf Blitzer can put their spin on it… but their sources for news stories are almost always the AP or Reuters. So we’ve established that most Americans have no clue as to what is really happening in the world, or even here around us in our own country aside from what basically two companies decide we should know. So Americans, especially those who get lots of programming from their Televisions, have no solid grasp whatsoever on what the hell is REALLY going on. We’re in somewhat of an information vacuum, imposed by our media handlers who spoon-feed us everything we hear on TV, Radio, or in the major printed media. All these outlets report basically the same things, with just slightly different spins on the story.
All this brings me to note another serious issue regarding The Truth. It is easier to accept for those who are younger and who have accumulated less items of perceived value to lose. Also note these items are of “perceived” value. This means we think they’re important… but sometimes we don’t even know why. Does it really matter if we have the newest… whatever gadget it is they’re pushing this week? Does it really affect our lives terribly adversely to go without whatever it is? Is that paper money really worth anything more than the paper and ink used to make it? Are those numbers in your bank account going to be there tomorrow? Are you sure? So you see, that clearly those who have lived longer have had more time to accumulate worthless junk than others of us, so those people will naturally find it harder to let go of the lies, and to seek out The Truth. Also note that you actually have to put in effort to seek out The Truth. It doesn’t fall into your lap one day. Also the older someone is, and the more vested their stake is in the current system, the more unwilling they are to consider changing it or reforming it.
I used the term older hesitantly, because after a certain point a person becomes somewhat retrospective about their lives, and those who have lived longer have seen many of these dehumanizing changes we’ve all allowed to take place over their lifetimes, and so some of these people are ripe to accept The Truth, and may even know The Truth deep down. I guess what I’m getting at is partly that we’re so fat and greedy to have all the modern conveniences, that we’ve traded The Truth for houses, cars, and worthless piles of junk. The Truth is not something to be bought and sold! We should be ashamed of ourselves! The Truth is more important than that… or it should have been. How sad and shortsighted we pathetic little creatures truly are. We’re losing our very grasp on the things that really matter… all because we saw something shiny and traded The Truth for whatever it was.
Another time soon I’ll talk about how difficult it was for me to accept The Truth. What a stressful and painful process that was! That’s also part of the problem, sometimes The Truth hurts. Sometimes it cuts deeper than any knife, sometimes it pierces right through us and convicts us via our conscience. The Truth is such a very powerful thing. Take care of yourselves everyone, and get ready for the inevitable change that is coming.
